We often encounter muscle pain and weakness in such patients. Our team identifies these conditions that affect your peripheral nerves or muscles or the junction of nerves and muscles and provides a solution as the city’s best neuro rehabilitation centre.

Neuromuscular rehabilitation includes relief from the following conditions

  • Peripheral polyneuropathies – A group of conditions where multiple peripheral nerves are affected due to various reasons such as nutritional deficiencies, cancer, chemotherapy, radiation, toxins, diabetes, kidney failure, and infections to name a few
  • Myopathies – A group of conditions that affects your muscles which can also be due to various reasons similar to peripheral polyneuropathies
  • Neuromuscular junction disorders such as Myasthenia gravis and Lambert Eaton
  • Botulism – A group of conditions which affects your muscle and nerve junction

Symptoms

ndividuals affected by these conditions can have a number of symptoms such as

  • Weakness of the arms and legs
  • Tingling and numbness of the arms and legs
  • Soreness of the muscles or burning sensation that can be noted in the arms and legs
  • Difficulty with vision due to the weakness of the muscles that control eye movements
  • Poor swallowing due to the weakness of the muscles that control swallow
  • Impaired speech due to the weakness of the muscles that control speech
  • Bowel or bladder incontinence due to the weakness of the muscles that coordinate these functions
  • These symptoms can affect someone’s ability to walk and perform activities of daily living independently, which can significantly affect their quality of life.

Expectations of Recovery

Treatment duration and prognosis depends on the nature and severity of the injury. These conditions can be broadly classified into two major categories based on their case: Acquired (developed during lifetime excluding genetic and chromosomal causes) and Congenital, genetic and chromosomal (developed during birth, childhood, or early adulthood). In acquired cases, the prognosis is favorable (provided the damage is not severe) compared to the latter and shows a good response to treatment. Complete recovery is possible in some situations and if complete recovery is not possible and you are left with residual symptoms, then our goal is community reintegration (i.e. return to work, return to driving, return to doing activities you did before) despite your physical limitations. In the event that the damage to nerves and muscles are too severe then our goal is to help you achieve an independent lifestyle and keep you as comfortable as possible.
